We’ve been customers of Bulb for the last couple of years. Recently we received our ‘Impact Report’ email for 2018. It was a masterclass in the art of making people feel like together they are making a difference.
Bulb, the UK domestic energy company, was set up by Hayden Wood & Amit Gudka with the mission to ‘make the whole industry better… (by) making energy simpler, cheaper and greener.’ The ‘greener’ promise is delivered through 100% renewable electricity, and gas with 10% bio-methane (pig poo).
Their ‘Impact Report’ email told me how much CO2 my family had saved in the last year, and what that equated to in terms of trees planted. Then the Bulb team laid out (with bold visuals) the collective impact of Bulb’s 950,000-strong Community:
- 1.4 million tonnes of CO2 saved each year
- That’s like planting 722 million trees. That’s bigger than The New Forest, The Broads, Exmoor and Northumberland national parks combined.
- All Bulb members combined have removed 1.1 million cars’ worth of CO2 from the atmosphere. A traffic jam with that many cars would stretch from London to Lahore.
- The average member who referred a friend saved an extra 3,194 kg of CO2 each year by bringing their friends over. That’s like taking 2.5 cars off the road.
It’s simple but effective: the feedback loop makes you feel good about your contribution, and there’s a good-for-the-world referral incentive built in (alongside a £50 reward for both referrer and new customer). Nice work, Bulb team!
